Our role in the region

Driving Excellence in Early Education

Lift Montgomery is proud to be one of five collaboration hubs across the West Midlands, working in partnership with schools to strengthen Early Years provision. We will achieve this by:

  • Hosting open days and school visits to showcase high-quality Reception practice.
  • Facilitating professional dialogue on effective Early Years teaching, learning and leadership.
  • Sharing evidence-informed resources, strategies and approaches to strengthen provision, recognising that we achieve more by working together.
  • Leading regular network meetings to promote collaboration, professional learning and the sharing of best practice.

We look forward to working alongside colleagues across the region to enhance Early Years practice, improve outcomes for young children, and ensure that every child receives the strongest possible start to their education.

About Lift Montgomery

Lift Montgomery Primary Academy serves a diverse and vibrant community in Sparkbrook, Birmingham. The school is larger than average and draws from an area characterised by high mobility, linguistic diversity and significant socio-economic disadvantage. Many families face complex challenges, and a considerable proportion of pupils enter school with limited prior educational experience.

The school has a distinctive profile. More than 95% of pupils speak English as an additional language, representing a rich range of linguistic and cultural backgrounds. More than 60% of pupils are eligible for pupil premium funding, well above national. The proportion of pupils with special educational needs is also higher than the national average, with 20% identified as SEND, including a growing number of pupils with speech, language and communication needs and social communication profiles.

Children typically enter Nursery and Reception well below age-related expectations in communication, language and early literacy. The school’s on-site nursery and two-year-old provision provide a stable and nurturing start for many families and support strong continuity into Reception and Key Stage 1. Leaders work closely with early years settings, health professionals and local organisations to ensure early identification of need and coordinated support.

Despite the challenges associated with the context, the school maintains a calm, purposeful and ambitious learning environment. Pupils feel safe, valued and well supported. Parents describe the school as welcoming, respectful and responsive, and outcomes over time demonstrate that pupils make strong progress from very low starting points. Lift Montgomery’s mission is clear and lived daily: to provide an excellent education for every child, in every classroom, every day. The school continues to build on its strengths while maintaining a persistent focus on securing excellent academic and personal outcomes for all pupils.
